Azul - Gameistry Tournament (2023)

Hey, fellow board game lovers! We are excited to be conducting Chennai’s first Azul board game tournament here at Gameistry. If you don't know what Azul is, let us tell you: it's a beautiful and elegant game designed by Michael Kiesling and published by Next Move Games, where you collect and place colorful tiles to decorate a palace. It's based on the Portuguese art of azulejos, which are stunning ceramic tiles that adorn many buildings in southern Spain. Azul is one of the world’s favorite games because it's easy to learn but hard to master. It has a perfect balance of strategy and luck, and it's always satisfying to see your board fill up with gorgeous patterns. The game also has amazing components: the tiles are thick and smooth, and they make a satisfying clink when you move them around. Let’s have an overview of the rules before we head into details of the tournament.

Each player starts with his own Azul board and common tile factories, where players take turns drafting tiles of one color from a repository or from the center of the table. The goal is to fill up rows on your board with tiles of the same color, and then move them to your wall, where they score points depending on their position and adjacency. You also get bonus points for completing rows, columns or sets of five colors on your wall.

The tournament is open to anyone who loves Azul or board games in general and wants to test their skills against other players. The entry fee is just Rs.299 and you GET your investment back even if you don't qualify. Here’s how…

1) you get a Rs.150 Gameistry voucher immediately upon Registration. That can be used on any of your bills until Jun 30,2023

2) You would get a complimentary special mojito (Azulojito) worth Rs.90

3) You also get to play approx. 1 hour of Azul during your first match. Irrespective of whether you qualify or not, an hour of gaming is worth a minimum Rs.109

The tournament will follow the official (basic board) rules of Azul, with each round consisting of four players. The top two players from each table advance to the next round until there are only four players left for the final showdown.

The winner gets Rs.4000 cash prize and the 2nd, 3rd , 4th places get Rs.3000, Rs.2000 and Rs.1000 as cash prizes respectively. The other 4 semi- finalists get Rs. 500 gift vouchers and remaining 8 quarter finalists get Rs.200 gift vouchers all from Gameistry.
